Lanarkshire is home to a growing Life Sciences and Medical Technologies Sector, with 35 companies, employing a total of 4,700 people. Four of Scotland's Top Ten medical technology companies chose to locate amongst our thriving and growing community of life science specialists. Key employers include Biosil Ltd, Controlled Therapeutics (Scotland) Ltd, Haemonetics UK Ltd, Organon, Oticon, PPD Inc, Provis Ltd and Wallace Cameron.

 

A key driver for the location of life science and medical device companies in Lanarkshire is the availability of labour and skills. The emergent skills base is directly correlated to the growing concentration of life science companies locally and the supply of graduates from nearby universities and further education colleges. Scotland produces around 60,000 new graduates each year with qualifications suited to medical technology i.e. medicine, biological sciences, veterinary science, physical sciences, mathematics, information technology and engineering.
