Lanarkshire's top business talents are gearing up for one of the year's most prestigious regional awards ceremonies on Friday 2nd March 2012 at the Shawlands Park Hotel.

 

The Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards are hosted by North and South Lanarkshire Councils. Sponsors of this year's awards are Coatbridge College, Cumbernauld College, Healthcare Environmental Group, Healthy Working Lives, Lanarkshire Area Tourism Partnership, Lanarkshire Enterpise Services, Motherwell College, Shawlands Park Hotel, South Lanarkshire College, SSE, UK Steel Enterprise and Westcrowns Contracting Services. Johnston Press and S&UN are the joint media sponsors of the event.

 

From all applications received, three finalists in each category were selected by a panel of judges. This week we profile the finalists in the best business, best new business, people development and tourism & leisure categories.

 

Lanarkshire's Best New Business sponsored by Lanarkshire Enterprise Services

 

IQ Integrity Ltd

The company entered the marrket with a new product several steps ahead of the established players. In 18 months the company has gone from no sales to having signed multi year client lease agreements These, in addition to the new development revenue, provide a debt free platform with a regular income stream frm which to grow organically.

 

Probe Test Solutions Ltd

A fast growing, vibrant company that provide the semi-conductor industry with leading edge test hardware for wafer and package testing of silicon chips. In just over two years of trading, they are now the largest manufacturer in the UK and have doubles n size this year. A focus on the European market has secured their growth.

 

Smart Systems Scotland Ltd

The company specialises in refurbishment and refresh of high end retail and commercial premises. They offer a fixed price service to carry out some of the design team functions and take cost out of the process without affecting margins.

The company's training policy and commitment to its 247 employees has been a significant factor in its diversification of the scope of the business. They have had a positive response from their clients in relation to their quality, attitude, attention to detail and responsiveness to change.

A family owned and managed business with 78 employees. Motivated, knowledgeable and talented individuals working in teams are key to their success in excellent service delivery. They have created a set of guiding principals called the GP Way and have developed a unique training and development programme around this.

 

The Westerwood Hotel and Golf Resort

The Westerwood develop and implement their innovative approach to people development to meet the specific needs of their business. They have created four key development areas and have been awarded Centre of Excellence status for five separate departments within the business.

Their first class customer service has allowed them to forge partnerships with all the leading multiples. They are now selling into the convenience sector and have expanding sales within Europe, USA, Canada, Far East, Australia and the Middle East.

 

Saltire Facilities Management Ltd

Saltire has developed into an effective and customer focused organisation. They are a market leader in their sector and are a high performing SME as a consequence of string strateguc leadership and a workforce that focus on excellenct service delivery. Investment in the business and individuals has been key to their success.

Alona Hotel

A 51 bedroom, four star hotel with facilities including conference rooms, 70 seater restaurant, lounge and marquee that can accommodate up to 350. An investment of £500,00 has developed the hotel into a very strong and profitable business. It has allowed them to progress into new markets, which has brought trade and tourism to Lanarkshire.

 

Amazonia

Amazonia is an indoor tropical rainforest exhibit, housing a diverse collection of plant and animal species. Their biggest development recently is Amazonia Interactive - a multimedia project provding an educational, fun, interactive experience for the 21st century. This has helped achieve a 10% increase in turnover and feedback from visitors has been excellent.

 

New Lanark Mill Hotel Ltd

A 38 bedroom hotel with facilities including 70 seater restaurant, health and fitness club and conference and banqueting centre. By building partner relationships they have been able to improve their offering for the benefit of their customers. In the past year they have achieved an increase in occupancy of 11% and an increase in turnover of 12.5%
